Paul Robeson Sings a Song of Peace in Peekskill, New York, poster USSR 1950 -- Daily LIFT #430
A truly magnificent Soviet poster portraying the planned concert that Robeson held in Peekskill, New York in August 1949 disrupted by anti-communist mobs that police allowed to attack those who tried to attend.
In the early 1950s, Robeson, a Communist and Civil Rights activist was stripped of his US passport and was blacklisted but still performed a number of concerts including one on the US-Canadian border at Peace Arch Park in Blaine, Washington that was attended by 25,000 people in 1952.
Robeson was born April 9, 1898.
