The Dominican Communist Party of Labor (PCT) and the Broad Front (FA) have described the recent postponement of the Tenth Summit of the Americas, which was to be held in the Dominican Republic, as a clear political defeat for both the government of Luis Abinader and the United States. This decision was driven by internal contradictions, diplomatic pressures, and widespread regional rejection of the exclusion of Cuba, Nicaragua, and Venezuela.

Exclusion and reaction from Latin America

Both organizations have highlighted that excluding these three sister countries was a distinctly imperial and reactionary move, which not only discredited the event but also politically isolated its promoters.. After the exclusion was announced, several progressive governments in Latin America, such as those of Mexico and Colombia, voiced their disagreement and opted not to participate, which further undermined the initiative and emphasized the lack of legitimacy of a forum intended to discuss democracy and cooperation.

Regional sovereignty and solidarity

María Teresa Cabrera, president of the FA, emphasized that the summit's failure demonstrates that the people of Latin America and the Caribbean are unwilling to accept imperial control or exclusions dictated by Washington.Rather than serving as a tool for outdated policies, the Dominican Republic should have exemplified regional sovereignty and solidarity.

The PCT and FA reaffirmed their unwavering solidarity with the peoples and governments of Cuba, Nicaragua and Venezuela, as well as their commitment to Latin American unity, self-determination and mutual respect among nations. These principles, they said, were betrayed by the Dominican government by aligning themselves with the guidelines of U.S. foreign policy.

A Call to Action

"This summit was not postponed due to natural or technical causes, but because of the political failure of a model of hemispheric relations based on exclusion and obedience," they said. The peoples of Latin America have made it clear that dignity and integration are more valuable than any summit devoid of content.

Finally, they called on all popular, democratic, progressive and patriotic forces in the country to maintain an active and critical stance in the face of the policies of subordination and servility, and to strengthen a truly sovereign, dignified and inclusive alternative for the Dominican Republic in the international context.
