Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez met this morning (May 7) in Moscow with Gennady Zyuganov, General Secretary of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation (CPRF), as part of his official visit to Russia which is celebrating the 80th anniversary of the victory over fascism.

The First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) spoke about the significance of the victory in the Great Patriotic War and the current attempts to rewrite it. The Cuban people, he said, are familiar with the history of heroism of the Soviet and Russian peoples.

He described the current relationship between the two parties as excellent and expressed his gratitude for their support in advancing the consensus reached with President Putin. He also extended warm greetings from Army General Raúl Castro Ruz and Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz.

Zyuganov referred to the Cuban President as a dear friend, thanking him for his support in strengthening ties between the two nations and political organizations.

At the meeting, the Communist Party of the Russian Federation awarded the Cuban President the Medal in Commemoration of the 80th Anniversary of the Great Victory.

The exchange concluded with representatives of both Communist Parties signing a Roadmap containing actions to implement the agreements reached last year to foster rapprochement between the two political organizations.
