Federal NDP Wet’suwet’en statement is a masterclass in BS

The statement does not mention the BC NDP provincial government of John Horgan once, anywhere. Seriously.

The NDP statement on the situation on Wet'suwet'en territory, despite some stiff competition, has to be one of the epic BS political statements released by them in many years.

The statement starts with:

We are deeply concerned to once again see militarized RCMP actions on Wet’suwet’en territory. In particular, we are concerned to hear about the arrest of journalists, who were prevented from carrying out their work, and First Nations People, who were prevented from carrying on their way of life

This is fine as far as these things go.

It goes on to say:

The NDP is committed to upholding Indigenous rights and advancing self-determination. New Democrats believe the federal government should not be able to pick and choose which Indigenous rights they will uphold, and which ones they will ignore.

And it does not mention the BC NDP provincial government of John Horgan once, anywhere.

Seriously.

Despite the fact that the provincial government has authority over the RCMP, not the federal government and despite the fact that we now know that the provincial government ordered the raids in February, 2020.

To issue a statement about the RCMP raids on Wet’suwet’en territory without mentioning the BC NDP provincial government is a farce. A total joke. And shows, yet again, that the NDP's primary commitment is to narrow perceived partisan electoral interests and not to justice or reconciliation for Indigenous Peoples.
