The Greek government’s stance at the UN General Assembly is deplorable. Solidarity with Cuba and its people!

The New Democracy government has once again found itself on the wrong side of history, when, after 33 years, it abstained from the vote at the UN General Assembly on the Cuban resolution calling for an end to the imperialist blockade. Its stance is despicable and unacceptable! Along with a handful of other countries, it aligned itself with the US campaign against the Cuban resolution, whilst the resolution was adopted by a large majority of 130 countries in the General Assembly.

The New Democracy government’s decision is yet another example of its complicity in the imperialist US-NATO plans against the peoples, at a time, moreover, when the Trump administration’s threats – including those of armed intervention against Cuba – are intensifying. Its stance makes it an accomplice to the ongoing crime of the blockade, which inflicts immense suffering and deprivation on the Cuban people and paves the way for the acceptance of pretexts and support for a possible imperialist intervention – a new crime.

Unfortunately for the New Democracy government, the Greek people harbour deep and widespread feelings of friendship and solidarity towards the heroic people of Cuba, who have been resisting the barbaric US blockade and threats for over 60 years.

The KKE will continue to take the lead and express its concrete internationalist solidarity with the Cuban Revolution and its people, and to condemn the imperialist aggression to which the Greek government is now also contributing.
