Ho Chi Minh statue unveiled in Bishkek

A bronze statue of President Ho Chi Minh was inaugurated on August 31, 2026, at Ho Chi Minh Square in Bishkek, symbolizing Vietnam-Kyrgyzstan friendship and serving as a cultural landmark for both nations.

The statue unveiling took place at Ho Chi Minh Square, located within the Royal Central Park complex in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan. The ceremony was attended by Vietnamese Vice President Võ Thị Ánh Xuân, along with representatives of the Kyrgyz leadership and other international delegates. The event coincided with Vice President Xuân’s working trip to Kyrgyzstan for the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Plus Summit and bilateral engagements.

During the ceremony, Vice President Xuân highlighted President Ho Chi Minh’s significant contributions and expressed the deep respect held by Vietnamese communities worldwide. She also thanked Kyrgyzstan’s authorities and Bishkek city administration for supporting the monument’s construction. Following speeches, the ribbon was cut, flowers were laid, and a minute of silence observed in memory of President Ho Chi Minh.

The statue is crafted from 99.99% pure bronze and, together with its nameplate, weighs over one tonne. It is a replica of a bust created by sculptor Trần Văn Lắm, which is currently displayed at the Ho Chi Minh Museum in Vietnam. Two plaques on the pedestal provide biographies of President Ho Chi Minh in both Vietnamese and Kyrgyz, offering visitors a brief insight into his life and legacy.
