It’s a Real Threat After All

With 19 days to go until the Smith MAGA ballot in Alberta, The DNA Report concludes a second round of This Week in Annexation with a quick review of signs that a Trump-USA takeover threat is not a figment of anyone’s imagination.
A Chilling Admission
More interesting than PM Mark Carney’s shuttle diplomacy to Europe this month was a curious and chilling admission he made during a NYT interview on September 23rd. Queried on how seriously the banker-PM takes Trump’s annexation threats, Carney admitted that he has studied the prospect of an American invasion, “I think you have a responsibility in these roles to look at extreme tail risk…[t]hat’s just risk management.”
Damage control efforts the next day by Carney’s Defense Minister David McGuinty stressed that the extraordinary admission was “normal” for any military in the world. Neither Carney nor McGuinty were willing to share any detail of the studies involved nor what Canadians should make of such things.
Whatever the detailed thinking of our rulers may be, this much is certain—Carney’s cabinet takes the threat of a Trump-USA takeover much more seriously than any government representative has previously let on.
The North Is Suspicious For Some Reason
In a poll that will not please NATO war enthusiasts, residents of northern territories in Canada—Nunavut, the Northwest Territories, Yukon and Nunavik—were recently surveyed about which country was the biggest threat to the region…and it was neither Russia nor China. 48% of those surveyed by the Quebec research centre, Observatoire de la Politique et la Sécurité de l’Arctique, identified the USA as the number one peril, with Russia trailing at 30% and China in the basement at 12%.
Spotty internet up north apparently has not hidden from residents the realities of the President’s ‘51st state’ boasts nor Herr Trump’s lusty designs on Greenland, dating back to his first tenure in 2019.
But…Greenland Is Completely Safe
On September 22, the US signed a security agreement with Denmark and the self-governing territory of Greenland at the UN in New York which allows the Empire to build two new military bases and significantly expand martial access to Greenland’s territory.
Hailed as a deal that averts repeated annexation demands by Herr Trump, this agreement extends upon a 1951 accord and is being sold as an affirmation of Greenland’s sovereignty. Ironically, the new agreement’s section on sovereignty stipulates that these new American war bases will remain even in the event of Greenland gaining full independence from Denmark.
How is expanding the military boot-print of a superpower which has repeatedly threatened annexation an affirmation of sovereignty?
Does Trump seem like the type of reasonable fellow who is pacified by an increased war hold on a territory thought to be chalked full of oil, gas, critical minerals and rare earth elements?
Does the Greenland ‘sovereignty’ deal set a precedent which Trump-USA will use to whipsaw Canada into a trade agreement which surrenders chunks of the country’s nominal independence?
