On Wednesday afternoon, at the Palace of the Revolution, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) and President of the Republic, welcomed Mr. Javier Eduardo Martínez-Acha Vásquez, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Panama.
The Head of State, accompanied by Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, a member of the Political Bureau and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, expressed gratitude to the Foreign Minister of the Central American nation for supporting the annual United Nations resolution opposing the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed on Cuba by the United States government.
The Cuban President conveyed the country's readiness to enhance economic and commercial exchanges between the two Latin American nations, noting that while current levels are not high, there is potential for growth.
Foreign Minister Martínez-Acha, currently on a working visit to the island, expressed gratitude to Díaz-Canel for the warm welcome and the support provided for the completion of his agenda.
Joining the Panamanian Foreign Minister at the meeting with President Díaz-Canel were Mr. Edwin Abel Pitty Madrid, the ambassador to our country; Mr. Marcos Caisuutti, a presidential advisor; and Mr. Adolfo Ahumada, an advisor to the Minister of Foreign Affairs. Representing the Cuban side, comrade Ileana Núñez Mordoche, the general director of Latin America and the Caribbean at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, was also present.
While in Cuba, Martínez-Acha engaged in discussions with his Caribbean counterpart, addressing matters on the bilateral, regional, and international agenda. They assessed the progress of relations between the two countries positively.
During his visit to Cuba, Martínez-Acha's schedule features meetings with Cuban authorities and a visit to the group of Panamanians who are detained and charged with a crime against the constitutional order of the Republic of Cuba, as stated in a note released by the Foreign Ministry on its social media platforms.
