The Brazilian Communist Party – PCB – vehemently condemns the attempts to outlaw the Communist Party of Poland and communist ideas, perpetrated by bourgeois governments and their lackeys in the Polish judiciary.
As reported by our Polish comrades, on October 1st, the Polish Constitutional Court will review a motion to ban the Polish Communist Party. Furthermore, communist ideas have been under persecution in Poland for some time: following the same modus operandi also adopted by the anti-communist right in the Czech Republic, new amendments to the Polish Penal Code were introduced in October 2023. These changes included: the prohibition of communist ideology and symbols, their unacceptable equation with fascism, and prison sentences of up to 3 years for communist activity. The Polish Communist Party adds that people are already being repressed, among other things, for displaying communist symbols during the May 1st protest this year in Warsaw.
The Brazilian Communist Party is all too familiar with the frenzy of anti-communist legislation. In our over 100 years of existence, we have spent more than half of them outlawed and, especially during the corporate-military dictatorship from 1964 to 1985, in the strictest clandestinity. Recently, even here in Brazil, spokespeople for the neo-fascist far-right have attempted to propose the criminalization of communism.
The PCB condemns in the strongest terms the approval of this anti-communist amendment to the Polish Penal Code and the announced attempt at outlawing, and expresses its full and unrestricted solidarity with the comrades of the Communist Party of Poland.
AGAINST THE CRIMINALIZATION OF COMMUNISM IN POLAND!
FULL SOLIDARITY WITH THE CPP!
IN POLAND, IN BRAZIL, AND ALL OVER THE WORLD: NEO-FASCISM SHALL NOT PASS!
