The Political Bureau of the PCTE expresses its dismay and sorrow following the derailment in Córdoba, which has so far resulted in 39 deaths and dozens of injuries. We extend our condolences to the families of the deceased and our support and solidarity to the injured, as well as to the emergency personnel, the workers from the affected companies, and the local residents who have collaborated in the rescue efforts from the outset.
The specific causes of the accident are still unknown, but tragedies of this kind are rarely caused by chance. We reaffirm our commitment to a fully public, workers'-controlled national rail network, designed to meet the needs of the working majority and not the interests of the capitalists. We hope that the investigations will shed light on what happened as soon as possible, and we will demand appropriate political and corporate accountability in due course.

“The KKE expresses its solidarity with the Spanish people for the loss of at least 39 people after the derailment and collision of trains in Andalusia”, the Press Office of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) emphasizes in its statement on the tragedy on the Spanish railway, adding:
“The Greek people have themselves experienced the pain of losing human lives on the railway, as seen in the crime in Tempe.
While the exact causes must be thoroughly investigated, it is entirely reasonable that, after such tragedies —which have occurred in almost all EU countries— people are deeply concerned about the safety of their transportation. This concern is justified given the policy of the EU and governments, which ‘fragment’ the railways, ‘liberalize’ them and privatize them, subordinating everything to the pursuit of profit.”
