Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez took to X and the Communist Party of Cuba website today (January 12) to stress that there are no ongoing talks between the governments of Cuba and the United States.
Statement:
There are no talks with the U.S. government, except for technical contacts in the field of migration.
We have always been willing to engage in serious and responsible dialogue with the various US administrations, including the current one, on the basis of sovereign equality, mutual respect, principles of international law, mutual benefit without interference in domestic affairs, and with full respect for our independence.
The origin and extreme tightening of the blockade have no connection to Cubans residing in the United States, who were pushed there by the failed policy and by the privileges of the Cuban Adjustment Act. They are now victims of the change in policies towards migrants and the betrayal of Miami politicians.
There are bilateral Migration Agreements in force that Cuba scrupulously complies with.
As history shows, U.S.-Cuba relations, in order to move forward, must be based on international law rather than on hostility, threat, and economic coercion.
