Statement by the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs, translated from the Spanish

As the Revolutionary Government warned on September 18, the actions of the United States aimed at justifying military aggression against the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela have continued to escalate.

There has been a significant buildup of military assets in the southern Caribbean, recent unlawful incursions by U.S. combat aircraft into Venezuelan Flight Information Regions, and repeated attacks on civilian vessels, resulting in the destruction of these vessels and the killings of their crews. Furthermore, the announcement that such military actions may extend to land areas has raised serious concerns. The situation is further complicated by the announcement that the United States regards itself as involved in a non-international armed conflict with unlawful combatants.

This extraordinary notification aims to legitimize larger-scale military operations, which could serve as a pretext for military action against Venezuela, thereby violating the purposes and principles of the United Nations Charter and international law.

Direct military aggression against Venezuela would unleash an armed conflict with incalculable consequences for the peace, security, and stability of Latin America.

We reiterate Cuba’s firm and unwavering support for the Bolivarian and Chavista Government of Venezuela and for the unity of the Venezuelan people, both civilian and military. Military aggression must be halted to safeguard peace in Latin America and the Caribbean.
