Workers Party of Ireland condemns the imperialist attack on Iran

WORKERS PARTY OF IRELAND CONDEMNS THE IMPERIALIST ATTACK ON IRAN

The Workers Party of Ireland condemns the latest military attack by the racist state of Israel and the USA on Iran as a reprehensible and criminal act. The military aggression of U.S. imperialism and the Israeli government, which is currently under legal process by the International Court of Justice in The Hague for crimes against humanity, is a blatant attempt to destroy Iran and replace the current government with a dependent and despotic regime. Massive US firepower has been assembled in the region and war preparations have intensified in order to impose imperialist plans in the Middle East, creating a real danger of escalation into a wider and generalised conflagration. This aggression will inevitably lead to great loss of Iranian lives and the destruction of the country. The Workers Party of Ireland calls for solidarity with the Iranian people at this critical time and stands with the people of Iran against this naked imperialist aggression.

This is not the first time the U.S. has participated in regime change in Iran. In 1953, the U.S. and the U.K. overthrew Iran’s first democratically elected government to prevent the nationalisation of Iran’s oil industry. Western powers then installed the brutal dictatorship of Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, who relied on a secret police force to torture political opponents, and which led to the 1979 Iranian Revolution, during which the CIA was expelled, and a theocratic Islamic Republic was established. Peace and freedom will not come from U.S. and Israeli bombs.

The Workers Party of Ireland supports the struggle of the Iranian people against the dictatorship but rejects the attempts of imperialist powers to manipulate these developments in the interests of imperialism. The Workers Party of Ireland extends its solidarity to the Iranian people who are currently engaged in their courageous struggle against the ruling theocratic dictatorship and rejects the reactionary forces such as Reza Pahlavi who are proxies for US imperialism.

The WP Ireland calls on the Irish government to prevent the use of any Irish facilities, airspace or territorial waters by the U.S. in furtherance of this aggression and calls on the people to reject the protests of the monarchist elements who support it and wish to reinstall the corrupt and bloody regime of Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi.
