Today, 1st December 2025, the Workers Party of Ireland, in conjunction with other member parties of the European Communist Action, held a Europe-wide mobilization with protests outside Polish embassies and consulates to oppose the Polish government’s anti-communist plans. The WP Ireland held a demonstration outside the Polish Consulate in Belfast and presented its criticisms and demands to the Consul.

The Communist Party of Poland (KPP) is a legally registered political party in Poland. Polish President, Karol Nawrocki, has filed a motion with the Constitutional Court claiming that “the aims and activities of the Communist Party of Poland are unconstitutional”. This is an absurd and unfounded motion and echoes similar attempts by bourgeois forces in the country five years ago to ban the CP of Poland. The Constitutional Court has set the trial date for 3rd December 2025.

This current attempt to ban the CP of Poland is the culmination of previous efforts by the Polish bourgeoisie and governments, with the encouragement of the EU, whose official ideology is anti-communism.

The Polish government’s attempt to ban the Communist Party of Poland is a dangerous assault on democratic freedoms and the working class, which ignores the role communists played in resisting fascism and fighting for workers’ rights. This action is not isolated. It is a blatant attempt to target the ideology and action of communists, to silence the socialist/communist voice and to erase the memory of workers’ struggles and the socialist achievements of the 20th century, which coincides with a general escalation of political repression in Poland and the European Union in the context of its war rhetoric.

The provocative equation of communism with fascism and its atrocities will not be tolerated. The Workers Party of Ireland opposes these plans to persecute communists, forbid communist symbols and distort the historical truth of socialist struggle and achievement.

These actions will fail. The workers’ voice cannot be silenced.

  • Solidarity with the Communist Party of Poland!

  • End the persecution of the Polish Communists!

  • Stop the attempts to ban the Communist Party of Poland!

  • Workers of All Countries Unite!
