Chinese President Xi Jinping marked the 90th anniversary of the Long March by urging Communist Party unity and calling for “new achievements” on a modern Long March inspired by the historic Red Army trek.

China held a major ceremony at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on Thursday, attended by about 3,000 people including top Party leaders. The event commemorated the Red Army’s 12,500‑kilometer Long March from 1934 to 1936, a defining episode in China’s revolutionary history.

Xi emphasized that “only by remembering history can we create a brighter future,” highlighting the Long March’s significance for China’s national rejuvenation.

He stressed the importance of upholding the Communist Party’s leadership and maintaining strict internal discipline, especially amid recent disciplinary actions involving senior officials.

Xi reiterated the need to reinforce China’s armed forces to “world‑class standards” and maintain absolute Party leadership over the military.

Xi framed China’s current development goals—including high‑quality growth, common prosperity, and technological advancement—as part of a symbolic new Long March toward building a modern socialist country.

People across China, including Red Army veterans, community workers, rural development teams, and researchers, expressed strong support for Xi’s message, linking the Long March spirit to present‑day efforts in rural revitalization and scientific innovation.
