On Thursday afternoon, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party and President of the Republic, met with Zhang Anming, the deputy general director of Guangxi State Controlled Capital Operations Group Limited. This Chinese state group is involved in evaluating joint projects aimed at revitalizing the Cuban sugar agribusiness.

In welcoming the delegation, the Head of State emphasized the importance of the visit, which continues the agreements and consensus established with President Xi Jinping. President Xi has demonstrated great sensitivity to Cuba's challenges and has advanced projects that are mutually beneficial in the economic and commercial domains.

The Cuban president noted that Guangxi, the autonomous region where the business group operates, has the most extensive experience in sugarcane cultivation and processing in China. This region applies innovative techniques and develops equipment, tools, and inputs for these productions.

Likewise, he emphasized the significance for both nations that during this initial visit to Cuba by the Group's representatives, collaboration with scientific and research centers has been strengthened, along with visits to sites where the primary production activities will be developed.

After briefly informing him about the historical evolution of the sugar agribusiness in Cuba, President Díaz-Canel stated that, given the current economic circumstances, it has been extremely challenging for the country to reverse the technological decline evident in both the industry and agriculture.

He also remarked on the potential of Cuba's infrastructure, soil, and human resources to restore sugar production levels, emphasizing the crucial role of the connection between the sugar agribusiness and Cuban universities.
