Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) and President of the Republic, welcomed Chakil Aboobacar, the Secretary General of the Mozambique Liberation Front (FRELIMO), this morning at the Palace of the Revolution. These organizations have a historic and excellent relationship.
In his opening remarks, the Head of State relayed greetings from Army General Raul Castro Ruz, the leader of the Cuban Revolution, to the Secretary General of FRELIMO. He also sent his regards to Mozambican President Daniel Chapo, inviting him to visit the island at his convenience.
The president conveyed Cuba's full willingness and determination to enhance and solidify interparty, economic, and cooperative relations during this meeting, held as part of the Mozambican leader's official visit to the Caribbean nation.
Díaz-Canel reflected on his 2023 working visit to Mozambique, where he observed the strong friendship between the nations. He mentioned his visit to the diabetic clinic in Maputo, highlighting the significant social impact of Cuban specialists working there, which exemplifies the potential of our collaborative efforts.
Chakil Aboobacar's visit was seen as a testament to the strong bonds of friendship between the two nations and their political organizations, rooted in the close relationship between Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz and Mozambican leader Samora Machel.
He also highlighted that this event occurs in the context of celebrating the 50th anniversary of Mozambique's independence, the 63rd anniversary of the Mozambique Liberation Front's founding, and 50 years of relations between the two nations, all of which are reasons to celebrate.
The Head of State conveyed his appreciation for the support from that sister nation in opposing the United States blockade and in advocating for Cuba's removal from the notorious list of countries accused of sponsoring terrorism. He discussed the challenging circumstances the nation faces due to these oppressive policies and expressed confidence in overcoming them. He emphasized that, to succeed, we rely on the solidarity of friends like Mozambique.
The Secretary General of FRELIMO expressed that it was both a privilege and an honor to be in Cuba. He mentioned that his visit resulted from a decision by the political commission and the top leadership of his organization.
He stressed that the Communist Party of Cuba is not just a friendly party, but also a strategic ally. He mentioned that they have come to offer the complete support of FRELIMO and the President against the blockade.
We are united and will keep collaborating. FRELIMO and the people of Mozambique will consistently support Cuba, the Mozambican party leader declared during this gathering. Emilio Lozada García, head of the International Relations Department of the Central Committee, and the delegation accompanying the Secretary General on the island were also present.
As part of his agenda, Chakil Aboobacar also held meetings with Esteban Lazo Hernández, president of the National Assembly of People's Power, and Roberto Morales Ojeda, secretary of organization of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba.
