The Political Bureau of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) has announced the convening of an Extraordinary Plenary Session of the Central Committee on Wednesday, June 17 to evaluate proposals for economic and social reforms that have been made by the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the PCC and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, in recent statements to the press. This session is notably prompted by the pressures of the sustained and enhanced, genocidal US sanctions on Cuba, which have greatly intensified the economic and social challenges facing the country.
The primary goal of this Extraordinary Plenary will be to discuss and consider reforms that may adjust Cuba's economic and social policies in response to the current difficulties. Official statements emphasize planning and socialist policy evaluation as well as maintaining revolutionary political continuity.
Past plenaries have often focused on internal party accountability and following up on prior congress agreements, reflecting the structured and consensus driven approach of the PCC in managing both policy and leadership oversight. The Extraordinary nature of this session reflects the obvious urgency of the present context.
