Sixty-five years after that April of courage under fire, the Fidel Castro Ruz Center will hold the workshop "Girón, 65 Years After the Great Victory Against Imperialism" on April 14 and 15. As part of the Centennial of the Commander in Chief, the event aims to analyze the significance of the April 19, 1961 victory, which showed the world the Cuban people's determination to defend the Revolution with arms.

As stated on the Fidel Castro Ruz Center's website, the opening conference is titled "The U.S. Armed Forces and the Mercenary Invasion of Playa Girón." Dr. René González Barrios, director of the Center, will oversee an analysis of Naval Base in Guantánamo.

The program features the presentation of the book "Playa Girón: 65 Years After That Socialist April", compiled by Elier Ramírez Cañedo, deputy head of the Ideological Department of the Party’s Central Committee, and published by Ocean Sur. It also includes the opening of the exhibition *Fidel, Days of Girón" in the Cinco Palmas room.

Among the papers that will be presented are "Background of Operation Pluto; The Mercenary Brigade and the Invading Plan" and "The Fight Against Bandits in April 1961".

Since its establishment in 2021, the Fidel Castro Ruz Center has promoted the study of Girón as a pivotal moment of anti-imperialist resistance. In every edition of the workshop, historians, journalists, and researchers have explored the lessons of this victory.

The heroic days of the Bay of Pigs led to April 16, 1961 being chosen as the founding date of today’s Communist Party of Cuba.

As Fidel described it in 1976, the Bay of Pigs was "the alternative between the past and the future, reaction or progress, tradition or loyalty to principles, capitalism or socialism, imperialist domination or liberation." That truth reaffirms itself with every anniversary.

The workshops can be followed live on the YouTube channel of the Fidel Castro Ruz Center.
