On Saturday, January 31, 2026, the Communist Party of the Russian Federation (CPRF) and the South African Communist Party (SACP) both issued statements strongly condemning the new aggressive escalation of the United States government against Cuba by imposing a total blockade of fuel supplies.
Energy offensive and "economic war": Both political organizations denounced the Trump's administration tightening of the economic siege with the aim of suffocating the Cuban state. The SACP describes the measure as an "act of aggression" and points out that Washington intends to punish any nation that trades energy resources with the island. According to the South African communists, these actions mark a new low of the campaign of terror aimed at destroying the Cuban social project.
For its part, the Presidium of the CPRF Central Committee describes the fuel embargo as an "act of economic and political warfare" based on false pretexts. The Russian statement warns that this move seriously violates human rights and international law.
Denouncing "hegemonism" and the Monroe Doctrine: The SACP views this policy in geopolitical terms as a desperate reversion to the Monroe Doctrine in South America, indicative of an "empire in steep decline" and a chaotic internal political situation in the United States.
The CPRF, under the leadership of G. A. Zyuganov, agrees with this diagnosis and accuses Washington of attempting to assume the role of "world dictator." The Russian document compares the pressure against Cuba with "banditry" against Venezuela, the blackmail of Panama and Greenland, and the threats to Iran, positioning Cuba as a "bulwark of resistance" in the face of U.S. hegemonism and plans for a "new world order."
Call for global solidarity: At this critical juncture, both parties urge international mobilization:
The CPRF calls on governments and progressive forces to create a "united front" to provide effective aid to Cuba and defend the sovereignty of the peoples according to the UN Charter.
The SACP demands the "immediate cessation" of this aggression and reaffirms its unwavering solidarity with the Cuban people and their Revolution
