The Communist Party of Greece (KKE) reports that Saturday, September 7, thousands of workers from dozens of sectors and workplaces, self-employed, farmers, youth, students, women and flood victims from Thessaly demonstrated en masse in Thessaloniki at the rally organized by the trade unions in response to the government’s fiesta at the Thessaloniki International Fair.
They demonstrated against the policies that destroy the life of the working class and the popular families and against the involvement of the country in wars; for the people to raise their heads against the anti-labour laws; for collective bargaining agreements with wage increases, guaranteed rights, stable working hours, 7 hours a day, 5 days a week; for real public, free and modern health and education; for an end to the unacceptable foreclosure auctions and the price increases of energy and water.
The General Secretary of the Central Committee of the KKE, Dimitris Koutsoumbas, took part in the rally of the trade unions and made the following statement:
“The KKE is present in the great mobilizations of the workers against the policies of the New Democracy government, the EU, the big business groups and the bourgeois state, which are constantly bringing new suffering to the Greek people. We fight with all our strength to make these struggles more robust, to infuse them with a real anti-capitalist orientation for the new society that the people and the country need, for the new power, the workers’ power.
In this regard, we fight against all the illusions and lies of the parties of the system, of social democracy, of the populist far right, of opportunism, which have created new problems for the people and made false promises. They have the same strategic line as the New Democracy, and whether they are in government, as in the past, or in opposition, as today, they play a part in the ND government’s game.
The KKE is today the only genuine opposition of the workers and the people. We continue on this path. The KKE is determined, militant, capable, united and strong.”
