You are not welcome here: Communists in Turkey and Greece condemn Rutte visit

Communists in Turkey and Greece are condemning the recent visits of NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte to their countries and demanding an end to any participation in or support for imperialist wars. In Greece, thousands took to the streets of Athens in protest.

Both the Communist Party of Turkey (TKP) and Communist Party of Greece (KKE) have issued statements.

NATO Leader Rutte is in Turkey

OMINOUS LEADER OF A SINISTER ORGANISATION, YOU ARE NOT WELCOME HERE!

Mark Rutte, the new Secretary General of NATO, is coming to our country today. When the visitor is a NATO representative, there is no need to ask whether it is ‘good or bad’. On the other hand, this visit is taking place at a time when nuclear war is being talked about. Moreover, the NATO secretary is making his visit immediately after his meeting with Trump, who is preparing to take the US presidential seat soon.

While wars continue in the south and north of us, and these wars are gaining new dimensions with the introduction of new weapons, Rutte's visit will of course be related to the role our country will take in these bloody wars.

The representatives of the government, who roared ‘eyy imperialists’ (expression by Erdoğan while so-called defying imperialists) in the squares and on television, will pose hand in hand with the leader of the imperialists' armed forces today; they will negotiate the bloody scenarios in which they will include our country.

We do not accept that our country is associated with this hypocrisy or that it is included in this or that plan in line with the interests of the imperialists!

Those who tell us that the security of our country is beyond Turkey's borders are clearly telling a story. The first and foremost security problem of our country is the NATO bases, troops and bombs within our borders. As long as these exist, none of our citizens are safe.

You are not welcome, Rutte. And one day you will be expelled from our country with your troops, your bases and your bloody flag.

Mobilization of the KKE and KNE against the NATO Secretary General’s visit to Greece

Greece out of the war! Neither earth nor water for the murderers of the peoples!

On Tuesday, 26 November 2024, the Attica Party Organization of the KKE and the Attica Region Organization of  KNE held a mass mobilization in the centre of Athens against the visit of M. Rutte, Secretary General of NATO to Athens.

Thousands of people and youth participated in the mobilization, chanting the slogans: "Greece out of the war!" and "Neither earth  nor water to the murderers of the peoples".

Calling to the mobilization, the organizations of the KKE and KNE stressed the following:

"A few days after the use of US and British arms against Russia by the Zelensky regime, Russia's subsequent updating of its Nuclear Doctrine, the recent missile launches and warnings that war is becoming "global"…

A few hours before the extraordinary meeting of the NATO-Ukraine Council and while everything indicates that the imperialist war in Ukraine has reached a new level of escalation...

The Secretary General of the bloody, murderous machine of NATO, M. Rutte, comes to Greece and meets with the Prime Minister and the government staff, after having visited Türkiye and met with the Turkish government in the framework of the bargaining over the Aegean and the legitimization of the Turkish invasion and occupation of Cyprus.

THE ALARM MUST BE SOUNDED IMMEDIATELY!

Now, when the danger of a generalized conflagration that will also affect Greece is more obvious than ever...

The popular sentiment, the voice of the people raised in the great general strike and in the recent anti-imperialist march on the anniversary of the Polytechnic uprising, should resound AGAIN in Athens and throughout the country:

We do not stain our hands with the blood of the peoples!

We have no business in the war massacre!

IMMEDIATE DISENGAGEMENT FROM THE IMPERIALIST WAR!

The New Democracy government and the other euro-Atlantic parties bear huge and historical responsibility for turning our country into a US-NATO stronghold and the offender of other peoples, while at the same time they turn the Greek people into a target of possible reprisals. They drag the people and the country into the carnage of war in order to serve  the commitments to NATO and the interests of sections of capital that expect new large profits from war and the destruction it causes.

The demonstrators also demanded:

  • The closure of the US-NATO bases in Greece.

  • The end of military missions abroad.

  • Cessation of all military aid to the Zelensky regime.

  • No support for the terrorist state of Israel.
