Solidarity with the people and government of socialist Cuba! - WPI

Workers Party of Ireland: Solidarity with the people and Government of Cuba

The President of the Workers Party of Ireland, Councillor Ted Tynan, and the Central Executive Committee of the Party wish to express our solidarity with the people and Government of Cuba following the cynical and manipulative use by enemies of the Revolution of a situation whereby citizens in Eastern Cuba held a peaceful expression of dissatisfaction with the deficit in the capacity of electricity generation and the distribution of food on 17th March.

These economic difficulties are a direct result of the illegal and criminal blockade that the US is maintaining against Cuba and the inclusion of Cuba on a spurious list of alleged state sponsors of terrorism.

If the US is concerned about the welfare of the Cuban people, as it regularly claims, it should immediately take Cuba off its so-called list of alleged state sponsors of terrorism and end the blockade. The reality is that the U.S. government has consistently sought to obstruct every effort of the Cuban State to find solutions to meet the economic and social needs of the Cuban people including the manoeuvres designed to cause inflation within the Cuban economy.

The Workers Party welcomes the response of the Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel and the Cuban Government to the recent expressions of dissatisfaction and has full confidence that the Cuban Revolution will overcome the current difficulties, as it has the many challenges caused by the vindictive hostility of the US in the past.

Long live the Cuban Revolution and the Communist Party of Cuba!

Solidarity with the people and government of socialist Cuba!

End the cruel economic war and the criminal blockade!

Ted Tynan, President

Gerry Grainger, International Secretary
