Thousands march in solidarity with Palestine in Holguín, Cuba

Granma reports that thousands marched in Holguín, Cuba both in solidarity with Palestine and in memory of a group of six young revolutionaries massacred on December 9, 1957 by assassins of Fulgencio Batista. They are memorialized at the Six Columns Monument where the 2 kilometer march ended.

It was led by Ernesto Santiesteban Velázquez, first secretary of the Party in the province, and Major General Ricardo Rigel Tejeda, head of the Eastern Army, and Manuel Hernández, Governor of the Province. They departed from the residence of the Mariana Grajales University of Medical Sciences.

Along with the locals, members of Cuban solidarity groups and brigades from Italy and Canada who are working in the territory joined in.

All demanded an end to the ongoing genocide in Gaza.

Palestinian doctor Tareq Toame, resident in Ophthalmology at the "Lucía Íñiguez Landín" Clinical Surgical Hospital, spoke at the monument. He told the crowd that he was moved by the mass opposition across Cuba to the genocide being committed by the state of Israel in the Gaza Strip. He also expressed his gratitude to the people of Holguín for helping him become a doctor.
